Easter – And What Has Changed?

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Even thought the new administration has gotten off to a quick start and even though President Obama has traveled to Canada, Europe, Turkey, and Iraq, What has actually changed? Americans are still struggling to stay employed, make their mortgage payments and keep their financial life lines in tact by hustling.  Americans are still divided right down the middle.  We are still engaged in two wars.  Yes, the stock market is rebounding, slightly and there are signs of life in the financial market (Wells Fargo).  However, all in all, we are still bound to the legacy of 10 years of Republican House rule and eight years of GOP dogma and indifference toward the middle class struggle.  As we watched the Madoff and Stanford debacles we are reminded that we must pick our leaders carefully for their legacy can bring down generations of Americans and cause unbearable suffering and pain for many American citizens both home and abroad. So, what will change look like when it happens?  When will we actually feel the difference and see the difference in our daily lives? I for one, am seeing the difference and I believe wholeheartedly that President Obama is changing the dialogue, and making a difference in how we are perceived throughout the world.  But, is it enough?  Only time will tell.  My biggest concern is that the Left Wing GOP (Wingnutz) and their following will never give up and embrace change and therefore stiffel, corrupt and repudiate all the good that is being done for personal reasons.  Denial is their only answer.  No is their resolve.  As selfish as the GOP is, they still believe that there is opportunity for this type of thinking.  The Conservative Movement aims to isolate the US and to extend the idiocy of hubris that got us here in the first place by continuing to lie, cheat, steal and exploit the air waves and the political system.  I say to you who read this, in all sincerity, it’s up to us to defend, fight and rebuff the arguments of extremists, so called Christians and rise above the fray by speaking up, acting out and never forgetting who got us here in the first place.  Sound off!  Let me here from you.  I am white, I am Left and I am proud to be a member of the global change initiative!  How about you?

Where are we going today/

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

This is a day to reflect and to be thankful for everything that has happened in our lives. As we are all focused on the economy, we are gaining a collective resolve to never let the likes of Ken Lay or Bernie Madoff, happen, ever again. Our focus and resolve are only as good as our actions and our deeds. With that in mind I am doing my share, every day, to support Barack Obama, the President of The United States and encourage others to fight the urge to criticize and lay blame on anyone but the GOP. They got us here by breaking the law, by lying and by abusing the power that was vested in them when they took the oath of office and to protect and support the Constitution of the United States of America. In these next years we must never, ever give up and/or give in to the name calling, bigotry wielding FOX News crowd and we must remain resolute and ever ready to strike down, refute and engage the enemy. The divide is clear and the danger is ever present. Do not, I repeat, do not rest on your laurels and let them utter any more lies, name calling and deliver any more Neo-Con hogwash without a fight. When in doubt, rely on your gut and take them on. Facts speak louder than words, but don’t stop fighting.

Phukphest ii

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Another Phunkphest was had at O’Neill’s in San Mateo. The horn section of Jeff Lewis, trumpet and Alex Murzyn, Bari and Alto Sax was absolutely phabulous and we were joined by slamming Hip Hop artist and local drummer extraordinaire, Bryant Mills who brought the house down. It was an emotional night which culminated in a great show, great crowd and great dancing phun and some very phunky music.  Many folks commented that the sound was extraordinarily phat and we appreciate the feed back, immensely.  Thanks to all of the friends of family, and you know who you are, for supporting the Fabulous Hummerz!

Starry Night @ USC 07/08

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

The NARAS or Grammy folks put on an event honoring Sir George Martin (The fifth Beatle) for his musical and engineering contributions (finally).  It was held on the campus of USC, outdoors and featured a list of up and coming as well as luminaries with whom we all are acquainted, ie. Tom Jones, Burt Bacharach, Chris Botti, Dave Grusin, Michael McDonald and Jimmy Webb.  However, the man who stole the evenings show was Jeff Beck who appeared with his bassist, Tal and shook up the campus with his rendering of, “A Day In The Life”.  I video’d the performance and it is truly spell binding.  He makes it look so easy, his notes perfect, his style unique and his presence all encompassing.  However, it was at the end, after the final note was struck that I was able to hear him speak in reverence of Sir George that touched me deep.  ”That there are three “G’s” that best describe Sir George, “G” one is for Generosity and his limitless contributions for bettering our lives and society on the whole, “G” two is for Gentleman of which the title “Sir” is bestowed and “G” three is for Genius for which we all can agree is simply what you are”.  Growing up with the Beatles and listening to the soundtrack for the “Love” remixes for the Cirque Du Soleil show at the Mirage in Las Vegas, I am reminded of how wonderful and talented this group truly was, and how well they blended with their producer, Sir George Martin, and that it is evident that the apple (no pun intended) does not fall far from the tree. His son Giles partnered with his father on this remix collaboration and re-mastering of Beatle music that is absolutely incredible and so worth the effort to listen to.  I am so happy that I attended.  Evidence of a good time had by all.
